Call For Whitepapers - Center For Aggressive Scaling By Advanced Processes

The Center for Aggressive Scaling by Advanced Processes for Electronics and Photonics (ASAP) will address the problem of energy-efficient data communication from micro- (on-chip) to the macro- (chip-to-chip and rack-to-rack) scales by developing fundamental technology solutions spanning materials and processes to devices and system architectures. The Center's research is expected to help the US semiconductor industry maintain their technological leadership in critical technologies, including high-performance computing, advanced manufacturing, 5G and beyond, and benefit the US economy by supporting technology commercialization through crucial partnerships between academia and industry.

Currently in its planning phase, the ASAP Center is recruiting prospective industry members to constitute the Center’s Industry Advisory Board (IAB) and compete for a Phase I NSF Industry-University Cooperative Research Grant in June 2022.

To develop the Center’s research portfolio and sustain engagement with industry members, we invite tenure-track, tenured, and research faculty members within the Grainger College of Engineering to submit a one-page white paper in response to the areas of high priorities as identified by our prospective sponsors. In this call, we encourage innovative ideas that are impactful to the semiconductor industry.

This call may be addressed by an individual PI or a small team of PIs. There is no limit on the number of submissions per PI. When submitting the whitepapers, PIs are asked to indicate the theme that their research can best fit into. Outside the focus areas, all submissions will be considered if containing outstanding, out-of-the-box ideas. PIs of selected whitepapers will be invited to engage with prospective IAB members and will have a strong potential to receive funding through the ASAP Center.
