Special Programs

This award provides a one-time, career development award of $340,000 to exceptional, early stage, independent investigators carrying out basic biomedical research. These funds must be expended over a period of four years or less. It is expected that Vallee Scholars will be engaged in bold and innovative research.

Eligibility

By submitting this application, PIs acknowledge that:

• The PI is a faculty member at the University of Illinois
• The PI must have received PhD, MD, or other professional degree, within ten years of the application deadline (February 1, 2023)
• The PI must have been in an independent research position (tenure track or equivalent) for six years or fewer

PI Requirements

• The PI is responsible for consulting with the relevant offices and meeting all requirements.
• If selected, the PI will be able to provide 2 letters of reference from experts in their field by the sponsor’s application deadline.
• If selected, the PI will work with their dean or department chair on a letter of nomination that will contain a description of the applicant’s merit and their research.
• To the best of the PI's knowledge, all the information provided in the application is correct.
